Longtime AADS member Kevin Bloom has been featured in the Petoskey News
Review! He's the new head brewer at the Boyne River Brewing Company
(he prefers the term "brewmeister") and the local papers up there are starting
to take notice.
April 10, 2005 -
The first fencing class at the new Ann Arbor YMCA was held this
past Thursday. It took a few minutes for some of us to wind through the maze
that is the new Y, but we followed the sound of steel clashing and finally
made it to the new digs.
March 18, 2005 -
After ten years of fencing at 350 S Fifth Avenue, in the heart of
downtown Ann Arbor, the Ann Arbor Duelists are saying "hello" to new digs, at
the New YMCA at 400 West Washington. Classes start back up April 7, so
sign up early. In the meantime, stop by the new facility and take a weekday tour. Tours
are offered from 8 AM to 6PM weekdays, on the hour. We promise to have
picures of the new pad soon, as well as a special retrospective essay by
founding member and full-time dad Bill Emerson.
Feb. 3, 2005 -
As we move into the last weeks of fencing at the "Old Y," duelist
Kyle Koskinen took these pictures and was kind enough to share them with yours
truly. Click here to
see the Thursday fencing class in action.
January, 2005 -
Happy New Year! Thursday night fencing moves into its
space-age digs sometime in April. Though it's hard to think about during
this extended "heck freezes over" spell we're having, for the first time in
it's 8-year history, the Duelist Open will be Air-conditioned. We're hoping to get a
sneak-peek around the new strip soon.
September, 2004
- The AADS Web page gets a much-needed update. The buck is
passed from Webmaster Epee Bill to new
Webmaster The Manic
Scribe. Look for more changes soon.
August
28, 2004 - The Duelist VII gets underway, with much fun had by
all. Scores of fencers, some from as far away as Illinois, Philadelphia,
and U of M fought it out in the 90-degree YMCA Gymnasium. Thankfully, next
year, the new "Y" that is currently under construction, will be
air-conditioned. Congrats to all the duelists who fought their best despite
the heat: Gary Hayenga, Josh Beattie; Ryan Polasek, Dan Bock, Tony
Kosla, Matthew Sypniewski, Daniel Zemke, Pamela Sayre, Colin MacLeod, Michael
Green, Daphner Howard, Mike Rappaport, Jacob Trithart, Tim O'Neil, Bill
Emerson, and Terry Kreuger.
